Objective: The primary motivation for this project is to connect us with others; because as we work in our studios, we often become isolated in our own insulated bubble. Together, we will be creating a work of art that in total is greater in sum than its individual parts. We will be working in harmony for the benefit of humanity (see below).
Design
The design will be a multi panel grid spelling the word “HARMONY”. Each individual panel will include a portion of one or more letters, such that when assembled the grid will display the word “HARMONY” in a patchwork of individual styles. The fact that each artist will be working on their own panel in a style of their own choosing will create visual interest and variety to the completed whole, while still being united by the color scheme.
The grid design:
- Panel: each individual panel will be referred to as a “panel”; - Grid: the group of panels spelling “HARMONY” will be referred to as a “grid”, and will consist of 32 panels, each panel 12”x12”x2”, total dimensions of the grid = 48”(h) x 96”(w). Panels will be prepared to be hung in such a manner that they will be flush with each other in a 4 panel x 8 panel grid.
Color Pallete

Group Nine: 9
Here is an example of a multi grid panel; 9 artists each had a "section" of the 9 image
9: A collaborative multi grid panel
A few years back, nine artists came together to create a group show. In addition to showing their individual work, they created a singular painting to be a unifying symbol for the shows. The painting is constructed of 9, 24x24 panels that are bolted together for hanging. The panel system was designed and build by Rodney Thompson. The artists top left to right: Sandi Miot, Mary Farmer, Eileen Goldenberg, Cari Hernandez Kathy Valentine, Rodney Thompson, Daniella Woolf
